ZUBIETA, THE HEART OF THE TXURI-URDIN PROJECT

Friday, 19 December 2025 09:30

Real Sociedad’s renowned academy present at the Yellow Cup.

The Real Sociedad SAD youth development project begins long before players arrive at Zubieta. The foundations of the club’s work lie in identifying young talent across towns and cities throughout Euskal Herria, where football remains a natural expression of local life. From there, the club begins a gradual process to support players through their first steps away from their familiar environment.

These early stages have a clear objective: to take players out of their comfort zone and expose them to new, demanding and structured contexts. Competitions such as the Villarreal Yellow Cup allow young talents to experience a more professional setting, share moments away from home and begin to test their ability to adapt — a key step before joining more advanced club dynamics.

For many players, these tournaments act as a gateway to Zubieta. Not as an immediate destination, but as part of a long-term development pathway that prioritises both personal and sporting growth. This Easter, Vila-real becomes one of those stages where Real Sociedad assess, support and nurture the talent that is born on the streets and pitches of Basque towns.
