LION CITY SAILORS FC

Thursday, 05 June 2025 12:00

The Singaporean academy enjoys 15 days of football in Vila-real.

Lion City Sailors is a professional football club founded in 2020 in Singapore, an island nation located at the maritime heart of Southeast Asia and ranked third in the world in terms of population density. The club, built on values of excellence, commitment, and humility, was established with the mission of representing top-level performance both on and off the pitch.

The Sailors, as members of LCSFC are known, aim to rekindle the deep-rooted passion for football in Singapore. For this reason, the club always puts the fans at the center of everything it does and serves both society and the ecosystem by returning to the basics: the connection between the player and the aspiring footballer; between the community and a team that embodies its spirit.

The development and growth of the youth academy is the core identity of Lion City Sailors. Through community, discipline, and responsibility, the club provides children aged 3 to 18 with a space to grow both as people and as footballers, regardless of their skill level. The ultimate goal is to make the academy a regional benchmark not only for the trophies it wins, but also for its playing style, focus on youth, behavior, and professional management approach.

The Asian delegation arrived in Valencia on Saturday the 24th, the day before the celebration at the Estadio de la Cerámica, which the Sailors experienced firsthand, as Villarreal CF secured qualification for the Champions League. That very morning, before the Villarreal CF vs Sevilla FC match, the Singaporean players enjoyed their first training session at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground.

The following week was full of experiences. First, the Sailors played a competitive match against CD Roda, explored the training ground in depth, played friendlies against several teams from the 'Cantera Grogueta', and took part in various training sessions based on the Villarreal CF methodology. In addition, they had the opportunity to get an up-close look at the Estadio de la Cerámica through the Tour & Immersion, reliving over 100 years of history that have made the Yellow Submarine a reference at the international level.

This week, the activities continue. The players will participate in several training sessions, play friendly matches against Promesas Castalia and CD Roda B, explore Valencia, have discussions with Villarreal’s international department, and even have the great fortune of attending the start of the FC Futures, a tournament featuring the youth academies of the 20 LaLiga EA Sports clubs, hosted at Villarreal’s stadium.

The visit of Lion City Sailors to Vila-real is a source of pride for the club and a unique opportunity for the young Singaporean talents to experience new cultures and training methods. This stay not only strengthens the ties between Villarreal Club de Fútbol and the Asian club but also proves that sport knows no borders.
