PRIDE, HUMILITY, AND NEIGHBORHOOD DNA: CD GRIÑÓN JOINS THE YELLOW EXPERIENCE

Wednesday, 20 May 2026 10:00

The Madrid-based club will take part in the Villarreal Yellow Cup Summer, representing half a century of history, growth, and football passion in southern Madrid.

From the southern region of Madrid, CD Griñón will arrive at the Villarreal Yellow Cup Summer carrying an identity built through decades of effort, humility, and deep local roots. Founded in 1970, when the town barely exceeded one thousand inhabitants, the club was created with a simple goal: to make football a unifying force for the entire community.

More than fifty years later, the institution has become one of the sporting references of Griñón, while preserving the values that continue to define the club: determination, pride, courage, and a strong sense of belonging. Under the slogan “Your sporting family,” CD Griñón has managed to consolidate a structure that has continued to grow over time.

One of the key figures behind this evolution has been Manuel Ávila Rodríguez, linked to the club for more than two decades and currently serving as president of the institution. During these years, the growth of the youth academy has been remarkable, expanding from seven teams to the current structure of 17 squads within the club.

The development of the academy has also been reflected in the first team. Throughout its history, CD Griñón reached the former Tercera División Nacional, a milestone that positioned the club within the Madrid football landscape and remains a proud memory within the institution. Currently, the team competes in Primera de Aficionados, continuing its journey through a philosophy based on hard work and player development.

In addition, the club’s growth has attracted interest from different organizations within Madrid football, with some even exploring potential collaborations with clubs from higher divisions. However, CD Griñón remains firmly committed to its identity and its ambition to continue growing from the grassroots level.

Now, the Madrid club prepares for a new experience at the Villarreal Yellow Cup Summer, where it will aim to continue showcasing its development model and share its passion for football on an international stage.
