The historic Vallès-based club will take part in the Villarreal Yellow Cup Summer while continuing to uphold a blue-and-white identity that has evolved from a local supporters’ group into one of Catalonia’s most respected youth academies.
Talking about La Roca PBB means talking about history, identity and youth football in Catalonia. The club, based in La Roca del Vallès, was founded in 1975 under the name Penya Blanc-i-Blava de La Roca, during a period when many football supporters’ groups also became important social and sporting hubs within their communities. In that context, a group of RCD Espanyol supporters decided to create a structure that would allow local children and young players to enjoy football and grow through the values of sport.
What began as a small supporters’ club linked to the Espanyol spirit gradually evolved over the years. First came modest youth teams, followed by entry into federated competitions and, later, the development of a sporting structure that would eventually become one of the leading youth football academies in Catalonia. The initials PBB —Penya Blanc-i-Blava— remain part of the club’s identity as a symbol of origins the club has never wanted to lose.
That heritage is also reflected in its colors, crest and visual identity, all deeply connected to Espanyol’s blue-and-white culture. For many years, La Roca PBB maintained a close relationship with Espanyol’s development ecosystem, acting as a talent hub and training ground within Catalan football. Joint tournaments, players progressing to the professional club and coaches linked to that environment were all part of a connection that still remains culturally strong today.
As youth football expanded throughout Catalonia during the 1990s and especially in the 2000s, the club experienced significant growth. La Roca PBB added more teams, professionalized its structure and began attracting talent from across the Vallès region, establishing itself as one of the most respected academies in Catalan amateur football.
Alongside the growth of the men’s structure, the club has also significantly strengthened its women’s section. After creating its first women’s team in 1997, La Roca PBB continued expanding across all categories and achieved important milestones, including winning the Catalonia U14-U16 Championship in 2016. Today, the club has more than 300 members and maintains a strong structure in both men’s and women’s football.
Now, La Roca PBB will take part in the Villarreal Yellow Cup Summer, held from June 25 to 28 across various Villarreal CF venues. The tournament will offer another opportunity to showcase a development model built on local roots, competitive spirit and a historic identity that remains deeply alive nearly fifty years after the club’s foundation.
