The historic club from Lleida will arrive at the Villarreal Yellow Cup Summer while maintaining its strong commitment to Catalan grassroots football.
The history of Atlètic Segre began in Lleida at the end of 1974, when a group of friends connected to football started shaping a project that would eventually become one of the leading references in Catalan grassroots football. Led by referee and businessman Josep Plàcido from Lleida, those meetings at Bar Monte Río marked the beginning of an institution deeply linked to the city and the surroundings of the Segre River.
The club took its first steps under the name Penya Real Madrid, playing its early matches at the Mariola ground. Over time, the project evolved into the current Atlètic Segre, consolidating a structure recognized for its developmental work and its presence in important categories of Catalan football.
Throughout the years, the Lleida-based club has built one of the most respected academies in the province, relying on a methodology focused on the sporting and personal growth of its players. Its regular presence in top-level grassroots football categories in Catalonia has strengthened the club’s reputation within the regional football landscape.
Now, Atlètic Segre will face a new experience at the Villarreal Yellow Cup Summer, where it will aim to continue showcasing its competitive identity and further promote the talent of its academy in an international environment.
